Tanagra Cabernet Franc 2020 (Single Vineyard Wine)
An elegant wine with peppery finesse from old vines of the smallest certified single vineyard on the farm

Tanagra Cabernet Franc 2019 Cabernet Franc is a cultivar typically used in Bordeaux type blends rather than in single vineyard wines. This Tanagra Cabernet Franc comes from the smallest block at the farm, only 1 ha in size, planted in 1996. We released our first Cabernet Franc Single Vineyard Wine for the 2014 vintage and ever since it has been our flagship wine. It is perfect to enjoy now or for (at least) another 5 - 6 years.

Vintage 2020
Vineyard North-facing vineyard (1 ha) at Tanagra (McGregor), at almost 140m altitude, registered as Single Vineyard. Soil mixed with slightly rocky parts and clay structure.
Vines Planted in 2002, Rootstock: Richter 110; 4200 number of vines trellised in a North-South row direction on a 5 wire system
Yield 5 tons/ha
Vinification Early morning hand selected harvest to optimize grape quality at 24 ballings. Hand-sorting of grapes before destemming. Whole berries are pumped into open top fermenter (without any green stems) and macerated there for about 4 days on the skins, allowing cooled grapes to extract colour and phenolic compounds prior to primary fermentation. Fermentation through natural (wild) yeast as soon as grapes reach room temperature. Punching down of fermenting must 3 times a day until fermentation is completed. Fermentation on the skins until about almost zero ballings. Gentle pressing of skins and malolactic fermentation in 225 litre neutral French oak casks for 14 months. Done with minimal interference through vinification, sediment may occur.
analysis 13.5 % Alc., PH 3.56, RS 2.4, TA 5.7
Tasting notes Ripe berries mingling with cool leaves and crushed herbs, good scaffold of smooth, rounded tannins, spice-laden finish.
